NJ Transit sponsoring Hispanic photo contest

NJ Transit and the New Jersey Commerce and Economic Growth Commission are sponsoring the 2002 Hispanic Heritage Photography Contest in an effort to honor Hispanic Heritage Month.

The theme of this year’s observance is "Visiones: Perspectives in Hispanic Culture." The contest is designed to encourage education and research of Hispanic culture, countries and history, and provide an opportunity for youths to creatively express their findings.

Residents ages 8-13 are invited to submit an original photograph, from their point of view, depicting an individual, place or event that represents an important part of Hispanic culture — customs, people, food, music, art, dance, history or lifestyle.

Prizes will be awarded in first, second and third place, and honorable mention, based on age categories. An award ceremony will be held to issue prizes, which include digital and 35mm cameras donated by New Jersey corporations.

Competed entries must be submitted to NJ Transit, One Penn Plaza East, Newark 07105-2246, Attn: Jocelyn Colclough, and be postmarked by July 31.

To receive a copy of the rules, or for more information, call Colclough at (973) 491-8275 or visit the Web site www.njtransit.com.
