One of two Wal-Mart employees charged with shoplifting from the store last month turned herself in Wednesday on charges she gave police a phony name when she was arrested.
On June 5, Manville police believed they charged two Wal-Mart employees, Lilian Torres, 27, of Farm Road in Hillsborough and Iris Miranda, 35, of Bound Brook, with shoplifting an item valued at $197.69 from the store.
But after pleading guilty to the charge, Ms. Torres came to the police and informed them that she had provided them with a false identity and that her true name was Karina Serrano Salazar, age 37. She indicated to police that the Farm Road address she had provided was correct.
According to the police, Ms. Salazar had a previous shoplifting arrest on her record and used the false identification to obtain her job at the Wal-Mart.
On Wednesday, Ms. Salazar turned herself over to the Manville police. Bail was set at $3,000 cash by Borough Judge Henry Rzemieniewski, and posted by Ms. Salazar. She has been released pending a municipal court appearance.
