Chorus wins honors

The Marlboro-based Heart of New Jersey Chorus captured second place in the midsize chorus division and fourth place overall at the Sweet Adelines International Greater New York Region 15 competition recently held in Philadelphia.

Under the direction of Jane Holden, the chorus scored its highest ever, performing "The Original Dixieland One Step" and "I Wish I Had My Old Pal Back Again." The competition was judged on sound, music, expression and showmanship. Holden, a Freehold resident, has been directing the Heart of New Jersey Chorus since January of this year and was honored at the event as Novice Director of the Year.

The chorus is composed of 50 singers from Monmouth, Middlesex, Somerset and Ocean counties and makes both private and public appearances. Interested women singers may visit a rehearsal on Wednesday evenings. Formal training is not required.
