Weekend activities slated at environmental center

The Monmouth County Park System offers free nature-related activities on Saturdays and Sundays at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center, Georgia Tavern Road, Howell. Suitable for all ages, the activities range from hands-on pond study to a slide show on New Jersey fossils.

The Environmental Center features interactive exhibits, multimedia presentations, and wildlife observation areas. Visitors are invited to explore the center at their leisure.

Open daily, the hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. except on Fridays, when the hours are 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Admission and parking are free.

The center is surrounded by 1,200 acres of forests and wetlands, and features a 5-mile perimeter trail, a boat launch area, boat rentals, bait shop, and a visitor center. The 770-acre reservoir is stocked by the state Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife.
