Dolphins top Sands team behind 29 gold medals

Sands Beach Club edges host 8-7 in relay races

Monmouth Beach Bathing Pavilion started off their swim meet strong against the Sands Beach Club, winning the first nine of the first 10 races.

The Dolphins continued on their strong course, eventually defeating the Sands Beach Club, 266-232, in North Shore Club Swim League action July 18.

The hosting Dolphins jumped out to a quick lead, with Kevin Stickle and Allison Villane winning the boys’ and girls’ 6/U freestyle, and Patrick Chevalier (boys’ 10/U backstroke), Jane Farrell (girls’ 10/U backstroke), Connor Stambaugh (boys’ 10/U butterfly), Daniel Keating (boys’ 10/U breaststroke), Carly Villane (girls’ 10/U breaststroke), Justin Anderson (boys’ 11/12 100-meter individual medley) and Jenna Seitz (girls’ 11/12 100-meter individual medley), all capturing gold.

Preventing the Monmouth Beach team from sweeping all 10 of the opening races was Devon Patvell, who took home the gold in the girls’ 10/U butterfly races.

Other individual gold medalists for the Dolphins were: boys — Killian Fister (8-year-old 25-meter freestyle), Brian Schnurr (11/12 25-meter backstroke), Billy George (11/12 25-meter butterfly and 50-meter freestyle), Max Spahn (11/12 25-meter breaststroke), Jim Denker (13/17 50-meter backstroke and 13/17 50-meter butterfly), Jared Murphy (15/17 50-meter freestyle); and girls— Christina Kalinowski (7-year-old 25-meter freestyle), Nicole Michaels (9/10 year old 25-meter freestyle), Jenna Seitz (11/12 25-meter butterfly), Jacqui Denker (13/17 50-meter butterfly) and Liz Widdis (13/14 50-meter freestyle).

While Monmouth Beach claimed the most top honors in the individual events, the Sea Bright club edged their hosts in the relay races, 8-7.

Blair Wikoff, Christina Conday, Sarah Finn and Devon Patvell first won the girls’ 9/10 100-meter medley relay, then Devon Patvell, Malley Patvell, Blair Wikoff and Allison MacNeal captured the girls’ 9/10 100-meter freestyle relay.

The Sands went on to win four 11/12 year-old races, the 100-meter medley relay (Nick Pederson, Chris Sharkey, Jon Portman and Joe Uemente, and Allie Peterson, Caitlin MacNeal, Kristyn Wikoff and Garrison Rufa); 200-meter freestyle relay (Nick Pederson, Terry O’Brien, Chris Sharkey and Joe Clemente, and Kristyn Wikoff, Garrison Rufa, Allie Pederson and Caitlin MacNeal); boys’ 13/14 200-meter freestyle relay (Russell Kiely, Alex Marra, Denny Waite and Kevin Walsh), and girls’ 13/17 100-meter medley relay (Christy Morrissey, Ryan Walsh, Alex O’Connor and Cassandra Stabbert).

Recording Monmouth Beach’s relay victories were: Amanda Sach, Maegan Cerruti, Clair Yerves and Jane Farrell, (13/14 200-meter freestyle relay); Kristen Mahon, Lauren Anderson, Jacqui Denker and Liz Widdis (girls’ 8/U 100-meter freestyle relay); Karlee Mass, Kerry Quinn, Colleen Yerves and Nicole Chevalier (girls’ 15/17 200-meter freestyle relay); Andrew Mahon, Michael Stickle, Killian Fister and Frances Degnan (boys’ 8/U 100-meter freestyle relay); Patrick Chevalier, Daniel Keating, Connor Stambaugh and P.J. Ermides (boys’ 9/10 100-meter medley relay); P.J. Ermides, Connor Stambaugh, Daniel Keating and Patrick Chevalier; (boys’ 13/17 100-meter medley relay); and David Mahoney, Steve Adams, Jim Denker and Justin Anderson (boys’ 9/10 100-meter freestyle relay).

Individual honors were won for the Sands were: boys — Brian Wikoff (7-year-old 25-meter freestyle), Jon Portman (9/10-year-old 25-meter freestyle), Russell Kiely (50-meter breaststroke), Russell Kiely (13/14 50-meter freestyle); and girls — Sarah Finn (8-year-old 25-meter freestyle), Allie Pederson (11/12 25-meter backstroke), Catherine Silva (11/12 25-meter breaststroke), Caitlin MacNeal (11/12 50-meter freestyle), Christy Morrissey (13/17 50-meter backstroke), Ryan Walsh (13/17 100-meter individual medley), Erin Rigby (13/17 50-meter breaststroke) and Cassandra Stabbert (15/17 50-meter freestyle).
