State, not county, runs theater

Letter to the editor

To the editor:
While it is clear that Stuart Duncan was not impressed by the recent production of "Fiddler on the Roof" at the Open Air Theater (OAT), I feel it is important to clarify a factual error contained in his review ("Sunrise, Sunset," July 12, 2002, Time Off, Page 9).
Mr. Duncan faults Mercer County for the condition of the facility, stage, sound system and other theater amenities. Mr. Duncan and your readers should be informed that the OAT is located in Washington Crossing State Park, making it a facility owned and operated by the State of New Jersey.
Mercer County has many beautiful park facilities, but OAT and Washington Crossing State Park are not among them. Perhaps Mr. Duncan should direct his recommendations to the State of New Jersey.
With respect to the production itself, I think Mr. Duncan has been unfair to a fine, enthusiastic production in a family-oriented theater.
