After an enthusiastic reception at last year’s Middlesex County Fair, the members of the band There 4 say they are looking forward to making their return to the fairgrounds in East Brunswick next week with a show scheduled for Tuesday at 9 p.m.

"We wanted to do the fair this year because it was so much fun last time. It was one of the hottest days of the year, but people were still out having fun," said Moshe Atzbi of Milltown who plays bass for There 4.

"We saw a lot of old friends and ate some great food. I can’t wait for those "mozzareppas," Atzbi added.

The band usually plays to a diverse crowd, usually comprised of 16- to 24-year-olds, according to Atzbi. However, at last year’s fair the band found itself in front of an enthusiastic audience of both older and younger people.

Besides Atzbi, who is 28, There 4 includes guitarist and vocalist Joe Bresnick, 22; guitarist Marty Jones, 20; vocalist Mike Newton, 23; drummer Jeremy Pace, 28; and Jud Repko, 22, on keyboards and vocals. Atzbi, Bresnick and Pace are all residents of Milltown, while Newton lives in South River. Jones is a resident of Sayreville, and Repko is from New Brunswick.

Two of the six county residents started a band four years ago, and joined forces with the other four members in the time since, finally becoming the full-fledged There 4 that they are today. While the band’s music could be categorized as hard rock, Atzbi said they have a mixed, diverse style.

"We get real heavy and we get real light. Sometimes a heavy groove, sometimes a little dance beat, sometimes real laid back. We like to keep the crowd interested with different sounds, and we put our all into our stage performance," Atzbi said.

Although he said There 4 is inspired by bands such as Tool, Rush, Depeche Mode and King’s X, Atzbi said they don’t necessarily sound like those bands.

There 4 is currently shopping for music labels and seeking airplay on the radio. Thus far, the band has been played on FM radio stations that include 89.5 WSOU, 105.5 WDHA and 88.7 WSIA. They can also be heard on Internet radio sites like Indie Launch and Audio Universe, according to Atzbi.

Other than seeing There 4 at this year’s Middlesex County Fair, those who want to see the band play live can occasionally check them out at many different venues. There 4 has played in various parts of the tristate area, including Birch Hill in Old Bridge, the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, various bars in New Brunswick, and both the Limelight and CBGB’s in New York City.

According to Atzbi, the band has played approximately 200 gigs so far.
