The Mac’s Fun Ball Basketball League’s summer season wrapped up last weekend with the playoffs and championship game. Last Friday night, the Bucks topped the Nets 49-47, behind the solid play of Bret O’Brien and James Reuter. In the second game, the Suns knocked off the Kings, 80-75, behind 22 points from Jason Miller, 17 from Jay McDevitts, and 15 from Jeoff Daly. Cody Chalmers led the Kings with 38 points.

In semifinal action Saturday, the Bucks beat the Bulls, 62-53, behind 24 points from Bob Miller. The Knicks advanced with a 58-46 win over the Suns, as Matt Ashe led a balanced attack with 14 points. In Sunday’s final, the Bucks edged the Knicks, 67-61, with Tom McDermott and Matt Sullivan leading the way with 20 and 16 points, respectively. Dom Fone led the Knicks with 16 points.

The last day to sign up for Mac’s Fun Ball’s fall league is Saturday morning, between 10 a.m. and noon, at Werner’s Deli on Main Street in Port Monmouth (next to Waloo Park).

The inaugural Jerry Morgan Park Family Fun Day will be held on Aug. 24 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. in Long Branch. A 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held for Long Branch residents only. Divisions are: boys 9-10-11, and 12-13-14; and girls 12-13-14, and 15-16-17. There will also be a bocce ball tournament and a horseshoe contest.

All proceeds go directly to the Parks and Recreation Committee of the City of Long Branch. Business and private donations are needed. There is a $50 minimum.
