South Brunswick resident, Specialist Lauren Duca, was recently presented with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Certificate of Appreciation by Gov. James E. McGreevey and the adjutant general, Brig. Gen. Glenn K. Rieth.

Duca is one of more than 60 New Jersey Army and Air National Guardsmen and women who have been deployed around the world and statewide since Sept. 11. She and the individuals were honored at an appreciation dinner as part of McGreevey’s "Celebrate New Jersey" program.

The certificate was embossed with a copy of the newly proposed New Jersey Homeland Security Medal.

The medal is designed as a tribute to the men and women of New Jersey who have provided security to the nation and New Jersey since the attacks of Sept. 11.

Duca, normally stationed at 50th Personnel Support Battalion at the Lawrenceville Armory, was activated for the LSA Respect, Freshkills Landfill missions after Sept. 11.
