EATONTOWN — The Wiz store at Monmouth Mall will close sometime this week, according to manager Dominick Lafalce.
The store is one of 26 being closed by The Wiz, a subsidiary of Cablevision Systems Corp., which also is selling its entire tristate Clearview Cinema chain of 59 movie theaters as part of a move to cut costs.
The movie theater chain includes the Movies at Middlebrook facility in Ocean Township.
The Wiz owns 43 of the electronics outlets, and decided to close 26 stores that are running in the red. Seven of those stores are in New Jersey; two of them in Monmouth County.
The other Monmouth County store, besides the one in Monmouth Mall, is on Route 9 in Manalapan.
The Wiz is hopeful of incorporating as many employees as possible from the locations that are closing at the stores remaining open, the company said.
Lafalce said the Monmouth Mall Wiz store would have a clearance sale before it closes, but he didn’t know at press time when it would begin.
The Wiz said customers looking for more information on sales can contact the stores directly or check the Cablevision Customer Site at www.cablevision.com/ customer.
Cablevision acquired the Wiz stores, then in bankruptcy proceedings, in January 1998 for $100 million.
