The Jackson Board of Education has rescheduled its Sept. 10 meeting to Sept. 9 due to a conflict with Back to School Night, which is also scheduled to be held on Sept. 10.

Vendors being sought

for Mothers Market

The Jackson Women of Today will be sponsoring its annual Mothers Market on Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to be held at the Larsen Road Firehouse, corner of North New Prospect and Larsen roads in Jackson. Vendors are being sought who wish to sell their gently used children’s furnishings, toys, and clothing. Proceeds will go to benefit the Jackson Food Pantry and other local charities. Scouts to collect old,

used and worn flags

Cub Scout Pack 82 of Jackson will be collecting American flags that need to be destroyed, including tattered, torn and weather-damaged flags. The flags will then be given to local veterans groups for proper disposal. Collection will begin Sept. 14-15 outside the ShopRite of Jackson and the Jackson Super Foodtown stores, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Details: Tony Alfano, (732) 814-8154.

Howell chamber plans

September meeting

The Howell Chamber of Commerce will hold its September general membership meeting on Sept. 26 from 6-8 p.m. at Our House Restaurant, Howell. The topic for the meeting will be advertising. Guest speakers from local publications will address the group. The cost is $25 per member prepaid, $30 at the door, and $30 for nonmembers. Library to host ‘Lure

of Lighthouses’ program

The Jackson library, Jackson Drive, will host a slide and lecture presentation, "The Lure of Lighthouses," Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. The program will be presented by John E. Granger, retired adjunct professor of social science, Ocean County College, and founder and past president of the New Jersey Chapter of the United States Lighthouse Society. This lecture will include 140 slides of lighthouses in New Jersey, the United States and foreign countries. This presentation is free and open to the public, but registration is requested. Art Auction slated at

New Egypt Elks lodge

An art auction will be held Sept. 28 at the New Egypt Elks Lodge, 105 Lake-wood Road, New Egypt section of Plumsted. Preview will take place from 7-8 p.m. and the auction will begin at 8 p.m. Admission is $15 per person and $20 per couple. Many well-known artists’ works will be offered as well as sports memorabilia, estate jewelry and sculpture. Hors d’oeuvres, wine and cheese, cash bar, and coffee and dessert will be available.
