Public invited to Girl Scout celebration

Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts is inviting the community to Camp Sacajawea, 242 Adelphia Road (Route 524), Howell, on Oct. 5 for a special double-anniversary celebration.

According to a press release, 2002 marks the 90th anniversary of Girl Scouts of the USA and the 40th anniversary of Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts. On Oct. 5, Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts will officially recognize this 90-40 anniversary during a celebration that is open to the public. The 90-40 anniversary celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admission is free.

As part of the 90-40 celebration, Girl Scouts will perform songs, dances and skits in a talent showcase and explain their most innovative service projects.

Visitors will be able to enjoy clowns, food, games and hiking around Lake Brindle. Interactive historical exhibits will be scattered throughout the yurts (portable tents) in camp, and guided tours will be available. Officially licensed Girl Scout merchandise will be available for purchase in advance of the holiday season.

Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts serves more than 11,600 girls throughout Monmouth and northern Ocean counties in conjunction with nearly 4,500 adult volunteers.
