KEYPORT — A 15-year-old Bronx, N.Y., boy and a Bound Brook man were arrested Monday after eluding state police during a car chase on the Garden State Parkway.

Israel Padilla, 42, Bound Brook, and a 15-year-old boy from the Bronx, New York, were arrested by state police at about 3 p.m. Monday.

"The investigation is still ongoing. We are still too early in the case to know all of the details," said N.J. State Police spokesman Sgt. Kevin Rehmann on Monday.

At 2:42 p.m. Monday, state police clocked a red Mercedes traveling at 85 mph north on the Garden State Parkway. Trooper Steven Vincent pulled the car over just after the exit 117 toll plaza.

"The car was stopped, and Mr. Padilla attempted to get out of the car, and the trooper told him to get back in the car," Rehmann said. "When he got back into the car, Mr. Padilla took off. He went a short distance, hit the median and skidded onto Route 36 northbound. Both of the subjects took off on foot and headed toward the Pine Belt Nissan."

The juvenile ran into the auto dealership, but Padilla ran to the back of the Route 36 auto dealership and jumped a fence, Rehmann said. The juvenile was apprehended in the Pine Belt Nissan ladies’ bathroom and was charged with obstructing justice.

Padilla was arrested by Keyport police Capt. John Dayback and was immediately turned over to the state police. Keyport police Lt. Tom Mitchell said his department was unable to comment on the case.

Padilla was arrested and charged with eluding police and will most likely receive additional motor vehicle charges, Rehmann said.

"It is still too early to say anything else. Additional charges may be forthcoming. I cannot say anything more right now because we just do not know yet," he said.
