MILLSTONE — A local engineering firm has plans to relocate to the township.

At last week’s meeting, the Planning Board granted approval to an application by Forty-Fourteen Associates seeking site plan approval to build offices, which are slated to house the new headquarters of Crest Engineering. The firm’s current headquarters are located on Route 33 in Monroe.

The site plan was resubmitted after the board’s engineer suggested some minor changes.

In response to suggestions from the board, the applicant agreed to lower the roof line on the building to a maximum height of 28 feet from the 35 feet previously planned in order to conform to maximum height requirements in the area.

In addition, the applicant agreed to move the entrance to the complex 70 feet farther into the site down Prodelin Way in response to traffic safety concerns from the board.

"We’re very happy and excited that this building is going to house our new office. It fits the type of community that we want to be in," Peter Strong, an engineer at Crest and the acting engineer for the applicant, told the board.

Strong also said that the applicant was planning to install water meters to monitor the on-site usage of water in the building, and water usage for irrigation outside the building.

"The applicant has addressed the majority of comments," Gordon Milnes, board engineer, told the board.

"This is a nice looking building and a very nice project. In my opinion, it is perfect for that corner," Mayor Evan Maltz, who sits on the Planning Board, said at the meeting.

According to previous testimony on the application, the complex would eventually consist of two buildings of 7,500 square feet each.

The plans call for a two-phase construction process. Phase one would take about nine months and would see one of the two buildings completed. Phase two would be slated for completion two years from the start of phase one.
