The Young at Heart adult day care center, located at 115 Grawtown Road in Jackson, will be holding an Octoberfest on Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Featured will be live entertainment, crafts for all seasons, a flea market, a bake sale, raffles and lunch specials. Howell church to host

art auction in October

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Howell, together with Avatar Galleries, will hold an art auction on Oct. 5. Preview of the art will begin at 6 p.m. and bidding will commence at 7 p.m. Wine, cheese and light refreshments will be available.

Both new and established artists working in a variety of mediums (oils, acrylics, lithographs, etc.) will be represented. Styles will range from realistic through impressionistic and into the abstract. All art sold will be of the highest quality and guaranteed to be substantially below gallery prices. Free fishing derby set

for Echo Lake Park

The Howell Optimist Club and the Howell Community Alliance are co-sponsoring a fishing derby on Oct. 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Echo Lake Park on Maxim Southard Road in Howell. Prereg-istration is necessary by Oct. 2. Partic-ipants may bring their own fishing poles or loaners will be available for those without one.

Hope Presbyterian to

celebrate anniversary

Hope Presbyterian Church, 617 Hope Chapel Road, Lakewood, will be celebrating its Harvest Homes 100th anniversary on Oct. 12. This will be an old-fashioned homemade turkey dinner, with all the trimmings, served buffet style. Baked goods and crafts will be offered for sale. Some of the church members will be dressed in the style of 1902, and live entertainment will be featured. There will be four seating times available: 4, 5, 6 and 7 p.m. Reservations are recommended, and large parties are welcome. The cost is $9.50 for adults, $5 for children, and $9 for takeout dinners. OCC concert band is

seeking new members

The Ocean County College Concert Band is seeking new members for its upcoming concert season. Band membership is open to anyone in the community 18 years of age or older who plays a band instrument. Band members do not have to be OCC students. The OCC Concert Band is a community-based group, which has been performing for the last 24 years. Performances include two concerts per year.
