MARIA "MAMIE" CRISTINE, 85, of Old Bridge died Oct. 2 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in New York City, she lived in Queens, N.Y., before moving to Old Bridge 17 years ago. She was an assemblyline worker at Barracini Candy Factory, Queens. She was predeceased by her sister, Agnes Bruno. She is survived by two nieces, Jeannette Massas of Matawan, and Patricia Bruno of Provincetown, Mass.; and one grand-niece and -nephew. Interment was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.

ANGELINA "JULIE" WALLING, 74, of Aberdeen died Oct. 12 at home after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Matawan, she was a lifelong Aberdeen resident. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She is survived by her husband, Donald W. Walling of Aberdeen; her daughter and son-in-law, Linda Walling-Murray and Richard Murray of Parlin; her sister, Carmen Rossi of Toms River; and her goddaughter, Arlene Kowalski of Florida. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Oct. 16 at 9:15 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Keyport.

GERARD J. FINNEGAN, 76, of Hazlet died Oct. 13 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided there until moving to Hazlet 42 years ago. He was an engineering estimator at ConEdison, New York, for 39 years, retiring in 1989. He was a communicant of St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Eileen Kelly Finnegan of Hazlet; four sons, Gerard C. Finnegan of Keyport, Kevin P. Finnegan of Springfield, Brian J. Finnegan of Red Bank, and Timothy J. Finnegan of Ramsey; two sisters, Ann Hayes of Brooklyn, and Marjie Piazza of Florida; and six grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. at St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.

EDNA M. TEKIEN NOLBERT, 88, of the Lincroft section of Middletown, died Oct. 3 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. She was a member of Lincroft Bible Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Nolbert. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard A. and Chris Nolbert of Missouri; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Helen McVey of Red Bank, Sophia Tekien of Lincroft, Lilyan Tekien of Whiting, and Wanda and Harold Wessel; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren. NANCY L. KNELLER, 76, of Middletown died Oct. 6 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Paterson, she moved to Middletown in 1975. She was a registered nurse, serving as a volunteer in Thailand, South Africa and Puerto Rico. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Middletown. She is survived by her husband, Franklin J.; two sons, Robert F. of Morris Township and Franklin J. Jr. of California; two daughters, Susan N. Cota of Atlantic Highlands and Thepin A. Fabiano of Port Monmouth; two sisters, Jeanne Porapat of Missouri and Marion DeTrude of Florida; a brother, Kenneth DeTrude of Florida; and seven grandchildren. A memorial service was held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, followed by entombment in Fair View Mausoleum, Middletown.

GARRY SWATZ, 41, of Aberdeen died Oct. 2 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Perth Amboy, he resided in Union Beach before moving to Aberdeen 14 years ago. He was the owner and operator of J&R Improvements. He was a communicant of St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. He is survived by his wife, Darla Jefferson Swatz of Aberdeen; his parents, Michael Swatz and Dolores Mioduszewski of Union Beach; two sisters, Diane Swatz of Howell, and Donna Cirill of Toms River; and his brother, Michael Swatz of Union Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. Interment was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.

RUSSELL G. BUCCO SR., 76, of Aberdeen died Oct. 8 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Aberdeen, he was a lifelong resident. He worked as a crossing guard for Aberdeen Township for 10 years, retiring in 1998. Prior to that, he was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, Matawan, for 25 years. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and Korea. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. He was a third degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, Keyport; a past commander of the Catholic War Veterans at St. Joseph’s, and a retired exempt volunteer fireman with the M.E. Haley Fire Company, Matawan. He was predeceased by three brothers, Lawrence Bucco, Philip Bucco, and Robert Bucco; and a sister, Minnie Venezia. He is survived by his wife, Carmella DiGiora Bucco of Aberdeen; two sons, Russell G. Bucco Jr., and Rocco P. Bucco, both of Aberdeen; three daughters, Mary V. Koehler, and Angela Marvel, both of Aberdeen, and Carmella Mocci of Keyport; three brothers, Anthony Bucco of Highlands, Frank Bucco of Old Bridge, and Joseph Bucco of Matawan; three sisters, Mary Bounano of Old Bridge, Ann Caden of Texas, and Angie Mizzel of Keyport; and four grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church. Interment was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.

LEONARD ZUMPANO, 72, of Old Bridge died Sept. 22 while on vacation in Alberta, Canada. Surviving are his wife, Doris Lauer Zumpano; a son, Eric of Jackson; three daughters, Anne Zechel of Rubicon, Wis., Diane Luiken of Pottsville, Pa., and Laura Swier of Matawan; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A Mass was offered at St. Ambrose Church, Old Bridge. Entombment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.

DANIEL C. WHITEHURST, 67, of East Brunswick died Oct. 2 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Surviving are his wife, Hedy Scibek Whitehurst; four daughters, Dawn Fineran and Vicki Hagman, both of Union Beach, Nancy Compton of Yardley, Pa., and Naomi Skwira of Sayreville; a brother, Joseph Matthews of Matawan; a sister, Mary Beth Thompson of Port Richey, Fla.; two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services were held at Maliszewski Memorial Home, Sayreville. Interment was in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Sayreville.
