Brookdale College offers activities to community

Brookdale will present a lecture by author and New York Observer editor Terry Golway, Oct. 20 from 2-4 p.m. Golway will speak on his recent book So Others Might Live, about the effect of the Irish on the Fire Department of New York City. Fee is $8.

Brookdale, in conjunction with the Vietnam Era Educational Center, Holmdel, will sponsor "The Spirit of Vietnam — A Look Back and Looking Forward" Oct. 21-24 at the campus. A photography exhibit featuring photos of Vietnam, during the Vietnam conflict and from the present day, will open at the art gallery Oct. 21 from 9 a.m.-10 p.m., and will be displayed Oct. 22-25 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"Since the Fall: The Vietnam War’s Legacy From the Vietnamese Perspective" will be presented Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Vietnam Era Educational Center. Individuals should call 1-800-648-8387 for details and reservations.

"The American Soldier in Vietnam: Personal Accounts" will be presented Oct. 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Brookdale campus. "Spirit of Vietnam: A Celebration" will also be at the campus Oct. 23 from 7-9 p.m. Fee is $8.

A presentation and commentary on Apocalypse Now will be Oct. 24 from 9:30-11 a.m. "Understanding Vietnam Through History and Photography" is slated for Oct. 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and "The Vietnam War: Why Did America Withdraw?" will take place from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Fee for any of the above, all to be held on the campus, is $5. Brookdale’s business and community development will host an open house for "Strategies for Continuing Professional Education (SCOPE) Information Technology" training courses Oct. 23 from 5-7 p.m. at rooms 216 and 217 at the ATEC building.

SCOPE programs are a combination of online and on-site training for high-demand information technology certifications. The program is free and refreshments will be served.

The play "Italian Funerals and Other Festive Occasions" will be presented Oct. 25 and 26, and Nov. 1 and 2 at 8 p.m., and Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. at Brookdale’s performing arts center. Tickets are $12, $10 for seniors and children, and $8 for Brookdale students.
