Jeanne R. Graves

CHERRY HILL — Jeanne R. Graves died Saturday at Manor Care Nursing Home.
   A resident of Cherry Hill for the past seven years, she was a former resident of Princeton.
   She was a registered nurse and was executive director of SAVE, the Princeton animal shelter, for 38 years before retiring at the age of 80.
   She was remembered by family members for her energy, positive attitude, self-discipline and kindness.
   Wife of the late Ailery Clay Graves, who died 13 months ago, sister of the late Maryanne, Pauline, John, Henry and Victor, she is survived by daughter Marie Weissenberger of Haddonfield; son Tom of California; brothers Nicholas of Florida and Anthony Rosso of Lawrence; grandchildren Lisa of Haddonfield, Jennifer of California, Amy of Cherry Hill and Anne of Washington, D.C.; great-granddaughter Cameron Marie; and many nieces and nephews.
   Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 214 Nassau St., Princeton.
   Burial will be private.
   Memorial contributions may be made to the Central New Jersey Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, 12 Roszel Road, Suite C201, Princeton, NJ 08540.

WHITING — Dorothea E. Nielsen died Saturday at Community Hospital, Toms River. She was 73.
   Born in Trenton, she was a West Windsor resident for 30 years before moving to Whiting.
   She retired from McGraw-Hill Inc. of East Windsor after 20 years.
   She enjoyed cooking, reading and gardening.
   Daughter of the late Alfonso and Mary Fernandez, stepdaughter of the late Arthur T. Robbins, wife of the late Robert E. Nielsen, she is survived by daughter and her partner Leslie Nielsen and Kathy Platt of North Wales, Pa.; sons and daughters-in-law Blair and Lori Nielsen of Yardville and Eric and Joanne Nielsen of Oxnard, Calif.; sisters Vera Messina and Eileen Seidl, both of Hamilton; grandchildren Kimberly and Amelia Nielsen; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Joan and Harry Protzman of Burlington; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
   The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square.
   Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton.
   Visiting hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Beatrice Karstad

CATAUMET, Mass. — Beatrice "Bebe" Karstad died at home of lung cancer Oct. 21. She was 62.
   Born in Richmond, Va., she grew up in Bloomfield, Mich., and was a longtime Princeton resident.
   Active in community affairs and volunteer groups, she was associated with the Princeton Hospital Fete for many years.
   She was devoted to sports, including field hockey, tennis, skiing and sailing. With an interest in genealogy, she researched her family history.
   She traveled widely and enjoyed visiting her in-laws in Norway.
   Daughter of the late Thomas and Virginia Blakeman, she is survived by her husband, Kaare Karstad; daughters KariAnna and Katrine at home; sisters Leal Randall of Cataumet, Mass., and Hannah Blakeman of Somerset; brother Philip Van Cleve Blakeman of Sandwich, Mass.; two uncles; and several nieces and nephews.
   The funeral was Friday.

Rose S. Roselli of Princeton Township died Sunday at The Medical Center at Princeton. She was 84.
   Born in East Orange, she was a resident of West Orange for 34 years before moving to Princeton nine years ago.
   She and her husband co-owned Charles T. Hornecker Florist Co. in East Orange for 18 years. She retired in 1967 and then became administrative assistant in sales training at Ciba Geigy for 15 years.
   Sister of the late C. Thomas Schettino, Angela Riccardelli and Ann Hofgesang, she is survived by her husband of 58 years, Thomas Roselli; son and daughter-in-law Peter and Nancy Roselli of Frenchtown; daughter Grace Roselli of Plainsboro; brother Frank Schettino of Fort Myers, Fla., and granddaughter Zoe Roselli.
   The funeral will be 8:45 a.m. Thursday at Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Ave., Princeton.
   A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Princeton.
   Burial will be at Trinity All-Saints Cemetery.
   Visiting hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
The Rev. M. Richard Shaull

ARDMORE, Pa. — The Rev. Dr. M. Richard "Dick" Shaull died of cancer at home on Friday. He was 82.
   An educator, religious leader, missionary and author with a career spanning more than half a century, Dr. Shaull was Henry Winters Luce Professor of Ecumenics Emeritus at Princeton Theological Seminary.
   He is the author of more than 130 articles and book chapters, and several books from "Encounter with Revolution" and "Containment and Change," a book he co-authored with the late Carl Oglesby, to his recent memoirs. His latest contribution is "Pentecostalism and the Future of the Christian Churches," co-authored with Waldo Cesar, a Brazilian sociologist.
   Born in York County, Pa., he graduated from Red Lion High School in Pennsylvania, Elizabethtown College in l938 and Princeton Theological Seminary in 1941. After a year as a parish minister in Wink, Texas, he left for Colombia, South America, to begin his long tenure as a Presbyterian missionary.
   He returned to the United States for two years to do graduate work before taking up his teaching responsibilities at the Presbyterian Seminary in Campinas, Brazil. In 1957, he returned to Princeton to complete his work on his dissertation and to complete his doctorate in theology.
   He then headed back to Brazil, where he continued his work of training young people for the ministry until 1962.
   After the military coup in 1964, Dr. Shaull was denied entry to Brazil for more than 20 years.
   He then accepted a tenured position, Henry Winter Luce Professor of Ecumenics, at Princeton Theological Seminary, a position he held for 18 years, retiring in 1980.
   For the last two decades, Dr. Shaull and his wife, Dr. Nancy Johns, served as Volunteers In Mission in various Latin American countries and promoted the missionary cause in churches in the United States.
   He is survived by his wife, Dr. Nancy Johns; daughters Madelyn Shaull and Wendy Shaull of California; sisters Jane Keesey and June Stroup; brother George Shaull; step-daughters Anita Smart and Sylvia Smart; and his ex-wife, Mildred Miller Shaull of California.
   A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, 625 Montgomery Ave., Bryn Mawr, Pa., where Dr. Shaull was a parish associate.

William A. Smith

FREEHOLD — William A. Smith died Friday at Applewood Estates. He was 84.
   Born in Pittsburgh, he resided in Monroe Township and Ridgewood before moving to Freehold 10 years ago.
   He retired from Public Service Electric & Gas Co. in 1979 after 38 years.
   He received a master’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
   Husband of the late Constance William Smith, he is survived by daughter Victoria Cuff, formerly of West Windsor; son W. Brewster Smith; sister Margaret Tyler; and grandchildren Allison, Douglass and John Cuff and Ashley and Carlin Smith.
   Private burial at Christ Episcopal Church in Middletown will be held at a later date.
