Emergency services available to families
of military abroad

The American Red Cross, Jersey Coast Chapter, Tinton Falls, would like the public to know its Armed Forces Emergency Services (AFES) program is available to families with relatives serving abroad in the armed forces.

The free emergency service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and enables family members to relay emergency messages, such as the death or serious illness of a family member or other family emergency, to the military family member.

Messages are sent from the American Red Cross chapters to active duty service members stationed in the United States, as well as overseas. In order to contact a loved one, family members must call the toll-free number, which is available through base/installation operators and local on-base Red Cross stations.

The Red Cross asks the families have the following information ready: the service member’s full name, rank/rating, branch of service, Social Security number, military address where deployed, and home base unit/duty phone number.

For more information, call the Red Cross at (732) 493-9100.
