Back to the ’50s … by rail

Model train club puts on a holiday spectacle once again

The 1950s-era model trains are back — and Rocky Hill has still got ’em.
The Pacific Southern Railway Co., a HO model railroad club of 24 active members, has unveiled its 39th annual show for holiday spectators. It’s all for a worthy cause. The $5 admission benefits the Rocky Hill Fire Department and the Rocky Hill First Aid and Rescue Squad.
A family favorite since 1964, the Pacific Southern will be open this weekend, too — Saturday and Sunday. It will be your last chance this year to see 30 vintage trains running on more than 3,500 feet of track through mountains, coal mines, shore towns, and more, plus a circus train, a trolley line and other special attractions.
   Show times each day are 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Admission is $5 per person.
Parking is at Princeton Gamma Tech on the north side of Route 518, east of the intersection of Routes 206 and 518. There is a shuttle from the parking lot to Geoff Green’s house, where the railroad is located.
Visitors are advised to arrive at the parking lot at least 15 minutes before show time. Tickets will be available at the parking lot. No reservations are needed.
