‘New Year’s Day Walk ’Round the Hook’ offered

Gateway National Recreation Area, Sandy Hook, will present a "New Year’s Day Walk ’Round the Hook" Jan. 1 at 11 a.m. to commence at Guardian Park.

The two-mile hike will be led by members of the American Littoral Society. For information, call (732) 872-0055.

"Preserving Your New Jersey Artifacts" will be held Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. at the education center. A "Holly Forest Ramble" will take place Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. and will begin at the visitor center.

The program "Harbor Lights" will be offered Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. at Twin Lights State Historic Site. A slide show will be given, followed by a climb up the south tower of the twin lights. A "Winter Waterfowl Wonderland" walk will be led by the New Jersey Audubon Society Jan. 25 at 10 a.m., beginning at the visitor center. Attendees should bring binoculars.

"Fort Hancock Architecture and Artifacts" will be held Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. at Monmouth Beach Cultural Center, 128 Ocean Ave. The free program will be presented by the Hook’s curator and will include postcards and historic photos.

‘Boats For Kids’ Sake’ now under way

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monmouth County (BBBS), Oakhurst section of Ocean Township, has begun its "Boats For Kids’ Sake" campaign to raise money for at-risk children in the county.

Seaworthy boats made of fiberglass will be accepted, and any size boat will be considered. BBBS will tow away boats free of charge, and donors may be able to take the fair market value as a charitable contribution for income tax purposes.
