Local teachers named
to advisory council

FirstEnergy Corp. has named two local educators to its newly formed FirstEnergy New Jersey Education Advisory Council for 2002 and 2003.

Sharon Wessel of Colts Neck is a family and consumer sciences teacher at Barkalow Middle School in Freehold Township. Jennifer Ruland of Red Bank is a fifth-grade math, science and technology teacher at the Wanamassa School in Ocean Township.

FirstEnergy’s three Educational Advisory Councils — in New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania — are composed of educators who advise FirstEnergy on educational resources the company makes available to schools, youth groups and community organizations served by its electric utility companies in each state.

FirstEnergy’s electric utility company in New Jersey is Jersey Central Power & Light.

In addition to reviewing and making recommendations on FirstEnergy programs, the advisory councils evaluate applications for the company’s mathematics, science and technology educational grants program.
