ORT Camp Fair set for Jan. 5 in Freehold Twp.

The Piscataway Chapter of Women’s American ORT will hold its 19th annual ORT Summer Camp Fair Jan. 5 at the Freehold Gardens Hotel, Gibson Place, Freehold Township.

A second fair will be held Jan. 12 at the Sheraton Edison, Route 514, and a third camp fair is slated for Jan. 19 at the Sheraton Parsippany, Routes 287, 46 and 80. All fairs will run from noon to 4 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

A representative from the American Camping Association will be on hand at each fair to answer questions about how to choose a camp and to distribute pamphlets with the questions most frequently asked by parents who are trying to choose a camp for their child.

ORT will provide a free booklet containing information about contacting camps and viewing their Web pages.

Discussion, nature walk planned Jan. 3 in Howell

The Monmouth County Park System will host a program on "Cold Weather Wonders" Jan. 3 from 3-4:30 p.m. at the Manasquan Reservoir’s Environmental Center, Georgia Tavern Road, Howell.

Area residents of all ages are invited to explore how different species adjust to winter.

After a brief discussion on the different ways plants and animals protect themselves from freezing, participants will investigate winter food webs and possible homes for hibernation during a nature walk.

The cost of the program is $5.50 per person; preregistration is required.
