EAST BRUNSWICK — The Township Council has elected two Democrats, including one longtime member and one newcomer, as its president and vice president for 2003.

At the council’s New Year’s Day reorganization meeting, newcomer David Stahl was unanimously elected to serve as council vice president. He was nominated by fellow Democratic newcomer Catherine Diem.

"I’ve gotten to know David quite well over the past couple of months," Diem said. "I’ve gotten to know David as a man of high principles and integrity."

The nomination was seconded by Democratic Councilman Edwin Brautman.

Donald Klemp was unanimously re-elected to serve another one-year term as council president. He was nominated by Brautman, and the motion was seconded by Stahl.

"I know we’ll have a very successful year this year," Klemp said.

Klemp will serve his second term as president, having replaced Jeffrey Simon a year ago.

Also at the meeting, the council made a number of appointments, including deciding which of its members would serve on various subcommittees.
