Environmental panel has not made decision on MOM

An article in the Dec. 24 issue of the Sentinel ("Milltown-based Watershed Group Seeking Volunteers") discussed the proposed Monmouth-Ocean-Middlesex (MOM) rail line and stated that the Lawrence Brook Watershed Partnership was in favor of this project.

This was an error.

The partnership has not had a debate concerning this issue and has not made a decision as to whether it is in favor of or against the line.

Statements made by Raymond Seaman concerning the MOM line are his opinions and do not reflect the opinion of the partnership.

The partnership is in favor of encouraging multiple means of transportation to improve the quality of life and to protect the environment.

Whether this particular proposal, however, is an appropriate solution to the transportation problems in Middlesex, Monmouth and Ocean counties is not necessarily clear to the partnership.

We propose to debate this issue in our organization, and when that is completed, we may have a position on this matter.

In the meantime, we recommend that all other parties concerned about the environment and the quality of life in the region seriously consider the long-term implication of transportation issues.
