Monroe voters should take a lesson from South River

Congratulations to South River voters for their support of education and for approving their March 11 school bond referendum by a 2-1 margin. The owner of an average home will see an increase of $93 per year in taxes to cover approximately $6 million of the total $11 million project. No trailers for them.

Did I say $93 a year for $6 million? Monroe, in your failed Sept. 24 school bond referendum, you could have had $97 million for $96 a year. Many are saying we blew it.

But wait, Monroe voters, you will have a second chance. There will be another referendum in December to address the skyrocketing student population. You will have a chance to spend your money on permanent facilities instead of additional costly, temporary trailers. The Board of Education has listened to your concerns and is scaling down the cost and trying to locate different land. The mayor and Township Council have even offered to assist in this search.

Our schools are busting at the seams. December cannot come soon enough for me.
