SOLEBURY The Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution Tuesday to adopt a code of ethics.
The code of ethics was introduced in February. Since then, Township Manager Michael Cotter has collected input from employees and staff, and the supervisors have sought public comment.
The questions posed to Mr. Cotter by township employees and staff concerned nepotism, the use of public property and nepotism, he said.
Also, a more precise definition of a "high moral standard" was sought.
"Legally, it is a well-litigated issue, and we would refer to the courts," Mr. Cotter said of the definition.
Concerning honoraria, the code of ethics states a township employee or official should not accept an honorarium for anything related to his official township duties or responsibilities. Nepotism would apply to full-time employment but not part-time employment.
The use of public property for non-official purposes is more an issue for public policy, Mr. Cotter said.
The supervisors amended the code of ethics introduced to include consultants hired by the township.
