E.B. children’s librarian

wins top statewide office

Carol Phillips, manager of Youth Services at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center, is the new president-elect of the New Jersey Library Association (NJLA).

She will serve as first vice president from 2003-04 and as president in 2004-05.

Established in 1890, the NJLA is the oldest and largest library organization in New Jersey. It advocates the advancement of library services, promotes access to library materials for state residents and sponsors special events such as the Garden State Book Awards for children and young adults and the recent One Book New Jersey initiative.

In her long career as a children’s librarian, Phillips has earned numerous other accolades. A past member of the Caldecott Committee and the Notable Books Committee, she attained the "triple crown" of children’s book publishing in 1988 when she was elected to the Newbery Awards Selection Committee. That same year the NJLA named her New Jersey Librarian of the Year. In 1999 the East Brunswick Township Council named Phillips one of 10 East Brunswick Women Who Have Made a Difference in their community.
