We have duty to keep Memorial Day sacred

Memorial Day is one of the most important and special days of the year. It is a day filled with reverent prayers and patriotic ceremonies. It is a day set aside to honor the brave heroes who gave their lives to preserve the freedom that we enjoy today.

We honor the resting places of these great American heroes by placing the American flag, the symbol of our nation, so that it can proudly wave where some of our veterans rest forever.

These public displays of patriotism are essential if the notion of remembering our war dead is to be instilled in the young. It is to them that the torch will be passed to carry out and perpetuate our American values and traditions.

Memorial Day is no mere holiday. In the best sense of the word, it is a holy day. It is our duty and privilege as Americans to make and keep it so.
