Milltown plans annual Fourth of July festivities

A variety of events will be offered at the annual Milltown Fourth of July celebration set for July 4.

A Fishing Rodeo, sponsored by the Milltown Rescue Squad, is set for 6:30 a.m. at the Main Street Bridge.

The Milltown Knights of Columbus will sponsor its annual 5K Road Race and Fun Run beginning at 7:30 a.m. at Borough Park. For a registration form or more information, call Thomas Harknett, race director, at (732) 828-7205.

The Fourth of July Parade will begin at 10 a.m. and will feature a float contest; a classic car/motorcycle cruise; marching bands including the Fralinger String Band mummers entertainment, the Pipes and Drums of the Jersey Shore, the Atlantic Watch Pipes and Drums and the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh Pipes and Drums; Uncle Sam the Stilt Walker; and Timbo the Clown. There will be a moment of silence at 10:30 a.m.

Rides, entertainment, clowns and free hot dogs, soda, face painting and balloon animals will be offered from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Borough Park.

A wristband ($7, advance purchase, $12 on the day of the event) is necessary for unlimited use of all rides. Entertainment will include the Party People from 11a.m. to 2 p.m., Mr. Ray from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., and Enzo Lizard Guys from 12:45-1:45 p.m.

Residents are invited to sing and dance with The Fabulous Greaseband from 7-9 p.m. at Borough Park. The group will play rock ’n’ roll party music from the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. Fireworks will follow immediately.

Rain date for entertainment and fireworks is July 5.
