OBITUARIES

EUGENE J. DENTE SR., 94, of West Long Branch died June 13 at home. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., he resided in Highlands and Neptune before moving to West Long Branch in 1950. Mr. Dente was a retired avionics technician/draftsman for the U.S. Army at Fort Monmouth from 1942-72, and received an official commendation for meritorious performance of duty from the Army Resource Conservation Program in 1971. Prior to that, he worked with the U.S. Army at Fort Hancock, where he was involved in the development of radar. He was also a clerk on Wall Street. Fluent in six languages, he served as an interpreter of French, Spanish and Italian for the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service at Ellis Island from 1934-41. He was a communicant of St. Jerome’s Roman Catholic Church, West Long Branch. He was a special police officer, volunteering at St. Jerome’s, and served as a security guard at Shore Regional High School, West Long Branch. He enjoyed history, classical music, cooking, and the Yankees. Mr. Dente was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Orrico Dente, in 1997. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Frederick A. and Marjorie Dente of Hawaii, John V. and Lorraine Dente of Long Branch, and Eugene J. and Sharon Dente of the Wayside section of Ocean Township; two daughters and sons-in-law, Clementina Dente Moss and James Moss of the Elberon section of Long Branch, and Theresa Dente Zuluaga and Robert Zuluaga of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Jerome’s Church, followed by burial at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.

BRODIE MARK McKEE, 4, died June 20 at Children’s Hospital, Philadelphia. Brodie was born in Long Branch. He was predeceased by his grandmother, Jessie McKee, in 1988. Surviving are his parents, Debbie and Brian McKee of the West End section of Long Branch; his sister, Jessie; his brother, Samuel; and his grandparents, Phyllis and Stanley Wasserman of Oceanside. Burial was at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Memorial donations may be made to The Brodie Bunch Foundation, P.O. Box 3217, West End 07740.

JOAN A. BROCK, 74, of Silvermead, Freehold Township, died June 14 at home. Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Bayonne before moving to Silvermead 18 years ago. Mrs. Brock was employed for many years in the deli department at the Two Guys store in Jersey City. She was active in the Silvermead Community Club and was a member of the CentraState Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township. Mrs. Brock is survived by her husband, Francis T. Brock; two sons, Francis Brock of Hazlet and Thomas Brock of Long Branch; three daughters, Joyce Urban of Wayne, Deborah McDonough Kisielewski and Patricia Anderson, both of Bayonne; five sisters, Viola Palangio of Brick, Anna Corrado of Spotswood, Dorothy Lyons of Manchester, Elizabeth White of Seminole, Fla., and Beatrice McConnell of East Brunswick; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, followed by entombment at Holmdel Cemetery, Holmdel. CONSTANCE BARTLETT, 81, of West Long branch, died June 21 at home. Born in New Britain, Conn., she resided in West Long Branch the past 43 years. She was a homemaker. Prior to that, she was an executive secretary at General Electric Co., Schenectady, N.Y. She enjoyed time with her family, classical music and opera. She was prede­ceased by her husband, Herman A. Bartlett in 1996; two brothers, Sebastian and Frank; and two sisters, Fanny and Mary. She is survived by three sons, Richard, Robert and Donald; her daughter, Janet; her brother, Joseph; four sisters, Grace, Delores, Patricia and Janet; and seven grandchil­dren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Dorothea’s Roman Catholic Church, Eatontown. Interment was at Woodbine Cemetery Mausoleum, Oceanport.
