JOHN J. CARNEY JR., 71, of Conway, S.C., formerly of Spotswood, died June 22 at home. He served as a member of the Spotswood Borough Council from 1986-1997. Surviving are his wife, Margaret A. Byrnes Carney; two sons, Michael Carney of St. Charles, Ill., and John M. Carney of Conway; three daughters, Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Albecker of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Margaret Ann "Peggy" Suever of New Market, Md., and Eileen Carney of Conway; a brother, William Carney of Massapequa Park, N.Y.; and six grandchildren. LAWRENCE F. DOUGHERTY, 74, of East Brunswick died June 22 at home. He was a partner for 22 years in Lar-Roy Pools, East Brunswick. WALTER R. RICZU, 67, of Milltown died June 20 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to his retirement in 1991, he was employed for 30 years at General Motors, North Brunswick. Most recently, he worked for Alpha Graphics, East Brunswick. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Higgins Riczu; four daughters, Pam Page and Deanna Koller, both of North Brunswick, Cindy Oliastro of Milltown and Patricia Soffer of Tinton Falls; and two granddaughters. RICHARD A. OSOWSKI, 51, of Monroe, formerly of South River, died June 19 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was a partner in his family’s business, Hanco Service, a heating, ventilation and air conditioning company in South River. Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Chadwick Osowski; a daughter, Rebecca, and a son, Robert, both at home; his mother, Regina Woina Osowski of South River; three brothers, Larry of Monroe and James and Matthew, both of South River; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joan and Frank Chadwick of South River; and eight nieces and nephews. EDWARD J. REESE JR., 83, of East Brunswick died June 15 at home. Surviving are his wife, Anne L. CARMELA SCAVONE VENUTE, 87, of Spotswood died June 18 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Her husband, Pascal, died in 1972. VIOLA SLOVAK WOJCIECHOWSKI, 92, of Milltown died June 20 at home. She worked for more than 30 years as a sewing machine operator in various factories in South River. Her husband, Frank, died in 1969. Surviving are a son, Alfred D. Wojciechowski of South River; two daughters, Carol Wojciechowski and Jean Patrick, both of Milltown; a brother, Ben Slovak of the Cape May Court House section of Middle Township; and four grandchildren. NORA T. RATHBUN, 80, of Princeton, formerly of the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge and North Brunswick, died June 24 in The Medical Center at Princeton. She was predeceased by her husband, Rollin E. Rathbun, in 1992. Surviving are a son, Rollin E. Rathbun Jr. of Hillsborough; two daughters, Terry Rakowitz of Georgia and Robin Doherty of Jamesburg; a sister, Ann Zyck of Flemington; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated on June 27 at Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, North Brunswick (time to be announced). Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Burial Park, East Brunswick.
SIGMUND J. KLOSEK, 86, of the Morgan section of Sayreville died June 22 at home. A master carpenter, he was employed by Carpenter’s Union Local No. 1006, Milltown, for many years before his retirement in 1979. He also was a self-employed home builder and co-owner of J&K Builders, Morgan section of Sayreville. His first wife, Connie DiBiase Klosek, died in 1979; a daughter, Rose Marie Crolius, died in 1978; and a stepson, Francis Javier Gutierrez, died in 1995. Surviving are his wife, Maria Carmen Perez Gutierrez Klosek; two sons, Joseph Klosek of Wescosville, Pa., and John Klosek of the Parlin section of Sayreville; a daughter, Catherine Klosek of Allentown, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Dora Bergmann of Morgan; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Perth Amboy. Interment was in Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy.
