It is pointless for legislation to write laws that will not be enforced in society.
Two years ago, the provisionary license law was passed. This law created a restricted license for 17-year-old drivers. Some of the restrictions included were rules such as curfews at midnight and no more than one passenger in the car unless it is a family member.
However, many teenagers who are under restriction have been pulled over and ticketed for speeding and had more than one person in their car, but were not penalized for defying the "new driver" rules.
The provisionary license is only one instance of not having consistent law enforcement that carries out consequences.
Other laws that are not enforced consist of children watching rated R movies, citizens not shoveling their sidewalks, and bike helmets not being worn by young children.
In order for these laws to be enforced, police officers need to pay closer attention to all the new rules placed on society.
If we don’t enforce rules, why do we have them
