Fair Haven resident J. Wylie Donald, a partner at McCarter & English LLP, Newark, was recently named chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s environmental law section. The section promotes professionalism in the practice of environmental law through programs, speakers and its newsletter.

Donald counsels and litigates with McCarter & English’s environmental and insurance coverage groups.

His perspective on the current practice of environmental law will appear in the July environmental supplement of the New Jersey Law Journal.

Donald has lectured on ethics issues, radiation injury claims, and hazardous substance release reporting requirements, as well as moderated panels on various environmental topics.

He received his juris doctor degree from Columbia University Law School, New York City, and his bachelor of arts degree at Rice University, Houston.

Area surgeon receives center’s Apple Award

Professional Orthopedic Associates, Tinton Falls, has announced its associate Dr. Jason D. Cohen was recently awarded the 2002-03 Apple Award for teaching ex­cellence by the residents at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Cohen is a spinal surgeon specializing in sciatica, sco­liosis, stenosis and spinal reconstructive surgery.

CPC Behavioral Healthcare appoints treasurer

CPC Behavioral Healthcare, Red Bank, recently appointed Andrew Vitale, a shareholder with WithumSmith & Brown, as its treasurer. Vitale, a certified public accountant, will work with the nonprofit to improve quality of life and health for individuals in Monmouth and Ocean counties.

Founded in 1960, CPC cares for children, adolescents, adults and families through several programs, and offers services such as mental health care, residential services, and addiction recovery services.

Freehold resident Vitale has more than 23 years of professional accounting and business consulting experience. He is in charge of WS&B’s Red Bank office, and was instrumental in establishing the firm’s presence in greater Monmouth County. In addition to his work with CPC, he is treasurer of the executive committee of the Brookdale Community College Foundation, Lincroft section of Middletown, and has been involved with various chambers of commerce in Monmouth County.

Medical staff honored for excellence in teaching

Two staff members at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, were re­cently honored with teaching awards, be­stowed by senior medical school students at Drexel University College of Medicine, Philadelphia, Pa., Monmouth’s teaching affili­ate.

Margaret C. Fisher, M.D., chairperson of pediatrics, was honored by the school’s student government association with the Golden Apple Award for excellence in teaching.

Raksha Joshi, M.D., associate program director of obstetrics and gyne­cology, was honored by Drexel’s fourth-year students with the Dean’s Special Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching.

Accountant’s team tops fund-raiser for ‘Relay’

Cowan, Gunteski & Co., Shrewsbury and Toms River, has announced that associate Michael Husenica and his team recently placed first in "funds raised" for the American Cancer Society’s "Relay for Life."

Husenica is a senior accountant with the Toms River office, and served as the Relay captain. The team raised more than $6,000.
