Brick minor leaguers look sharp in pool play

Brick National’s A team has high hopes of winning the Brick National Minor League Invitational baseball tournament, if its performance in pool play is any indication.

The National A won both games and played Manchester in the double-elimination bracket Tuesday night at 6:30 this week after it swept past Brick American, 10-6, and Manchester, 22-7, over the weekend. Brick American also lost to Point Pleasant Borough, 7-5.

John Brodsky clubbed three hits and Ben Casado made sparkling plays at third base for the National against Brick American. Dan Gagliardi, who pitched 4 1/3 innings, got the victory. Brendan Callahan pitched the victory over Manchester as Alex Coeyman and Brad Hall hit well.

The Brick National B team split two games in pool play, losing to Toms River North, 21-1, and beating Toms River American, 17-7, as Kevin Daskalowitz hit well and Bill Magnusson got the victory.

The National B team played Toms River American again Monday and Brick American played Point Pleasant Borough in the start of double-elimination play.
