California needs more leadership

The recall of California Gov. Gray Davis has become a circus.
Almost 150 people have the intention of running for the office once held by the now disgraced governor. Everyone from Arnold Schwarzenegger to former child star Gary Coleman to even Larry Flynt all have intentions of running.
The only thing that makes sense of the whole mess is that the state’s Democrats have no or very little intentions of filling the seat. Never in California’s 153-year history has a governor faced a recall.
From the $38 billion deficit, to the energy crisis, the governor has failed those people he was elected to serve.
A new person needs to be put into office, but I don’t think it has to be a mish-mash of characters like Mr. Schwarzenegger and Mr. Flint.
I am not against famous or popular people running for political office. Ronald Reagan was governor of California in the 60s and later president. But, it was a much different time and he was a different person. Mr. Reagan seemed to have more respect for the job and was able to make a division between Ronald Reagan, politician, from Ronald Reagan, movie star.
Mr. Schwarzenegger, Mr. Coleman, and Mr. Flynt make the job seem like it is some sort of screen test for a big film. Mr. Schwarzenegger may be a real nice guy, but just does not have the background for the job.
I think the whole "Tonight Show" announcement was used to bolster ratings for both Mr. Schwarzenegger and Jay Leno.
The whole recall debacle should come as no surprise as Jerry Springer announced earlier in the week he would not run for the Senate in Ohio.
Aww … what a shame! Such a nice guy like him! I believe he said he would not run because it would mean he would not be able to campaign and still do a national syndicated talk show.
   Really? I never knew!
