for monthlong yard sale

Jewish Family Service (JFS) of Southern Middlesex County will hold a monthlong benefit yard sale from Aug. 25-Sept. 23 at the store between Stop & Shop and Ocean First Bank in the Concordia Shopping Center, Prospect Plains Road, Monroe. The store will be open for sales and donations from 10 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

All proceeds from the sale will benefit JFS programs.

JFS is seeking donations of items such as toys, light electronic equipment, linens, costume jewelry, tools, lamps, handbags, dishes, flatware, televisions, etc. Books, records computers, clothing and shoes will not be accepted. All merchandise must be in good, working condition. Donations should not be brought to the JFS office in Monroe.

Widows and Widowers

The Widows and Widowers (WOWs) Chapter of Middlesex County West will hold a social from 7-11 p.m. on Sept. 7 at the Belarussian American Center, Whitehead Avenue, South River. Socials are held on the first Sunday of every month, unless otherwise specified.

New members are welcome. Admission is $8 for members and nonmembers. The group is nonprofit and nonsectarian.

Separated, divorced

group slates meetings

Passages, a nondenominational, self-help group for separated and divorced adults, holds meetings at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 505 Main St., Spotswood.

The organization, which offers small weekly discussion groups and a calendar of social outings, is designed to provide emotional support to individuals going through the pain associated with separation and divorce and help them find the answers to get on with their lives. ‘The Jews of Newark’

will be topic of lecture

The next installment in the Jewish Historical Society of Central Jersey’s sixth annual lecture series, The American Jewish Experience, will be held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 8 at the Monroe Township Jewish Center, Cornell Ave.

Guest speaker Dr. David Cowen, professor emeritus of history at Rutgers University, will offer a talk titled "The Jews of Newark: Addenda."

Admission is free of charge. The public is welcome. Refreshments will be served.
