Jersey auction to benefit MS

LAKEWOOD — On Aug. 16 the Lakewood BlueClaws will hold their annual Lakewood BlueClaws Jersey Auction to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society, Mid-Jersey Chapter.

Not only will the BlueClaws run the charity auction that evening, but earlier that afternoon team mascot Buster and the BlueClaws will host a special lunch for children whose parents have MS.

The auction will be held following the BlueClaws vs. Lexington Legends baseball game. The BlueClaws players will auction off their custom designed jerseys that were created by Freehold artist Sherril Beaton-Jose for that evening.

Fans can bid on their favorite player’s jersey and the highest bidder will have their picture taken with the player and receive the autographed jersey. Bidding for the jerseys will begin when the gates open and will continue until after the contest ends. Proceeds from the auction will go to support local programs of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Mid-Jersey Chapter.

"We’re looking forward to the jersey auction," said BlueClaws General Mana-ger Geoff Brown. "Our fans enjoyed it last year and it all goes toward a tremendous local cause."

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic and often disabling disease of the central nervous system. People with MS, which is usually diagnosed in the prime of life (between the ages of 20 and 50), face unpredictable symptoms that can range from numbness and blurred vision to paralysis and blindness. Because of its unpredictability, the age at which it manifests itself and the fact that more than 70 percent of the people with MS are women, the disease often has a devastating impact on families, according to a press release.

The National MS Society supports programs that help ensure people with MS will live their lives with as little disruption as possible. The society advocates for the empowerment of people with MS.

Game time is 7:05 p.m. at FirstEnergy Park, 2 Stadium Way. General Admission Sod Squad Lawn Tickets remain for $5. For tickets call the Lakewood BlueClaws at (732) 901-7000, Option 2.
