Officials saving town’s history for residents

As a resident of Monroe, I have been interested in the township’s rich history, and I am more than pleased to know that Mayor Richard Pucci and the Township Council are championing efforts to make this history accessible for all the people of Monroe.

Monroe recently hosted a day of living history as part of the Road to Monmouth Heritage Campaign. Tours of historical sites as well as portrayals of historical figures were just some of the highlights of an exciting day’s events.

The events took place at the site of Monroe’s own history museum, which includes a wide variety of artifacts lovingly preserved by the efforts of the Monroe Township Historical Preservation Commission. These artifacts include agricultural implements, family Bibles, old maps, American Indian artifacts and memorabilia from Forsgate Farms and a one-room schoolhouse and much more. Artifact donations are most welcome, and residents can call (732) 521-4400 to make arrangements.

Thank you, Mayor Pucci, for not only recognizing the importance of our heritage but for developing a program that will memorialize Monroe’s history and preserve artifacts.
