Reader: Where is car insurance, property tax reform?
Well, it is now official. According to a recent morning’s news, New Jersey again is being recognized for having the highest auto insurance rates in all 50 states. And the state has the honor of having this distinction for eight out of the last 10 years. When, oh, when, will someone in the state Legislature do something that is important to the residents of this state?
This issue has been ongoing for as long as I can remember, and every year the residents are promised relief, usually just before an election. Should I continue?
Well, now that you mention it, property taxes are in the same category. Every year they increase, and every year the legislators promise change. Now the topic of conversation regarding property taxes is a constitutional convention.
This is another way for legislators to avoid making the hard decisions, especially a decision that might upset New Jersey teachers, and, ultimately their votes.
Having been active in East Brunswick as a Township Council member for eight years, I don’t like writing a letter like this one. But the end result is that New Jersey state legislators have nothing to be proud of when it comes to solving the larger problems.
In my opinion it all comes down to business relationships in state government and votes during elections. Am I jaded? You bet.
