Sayreville girls turn summer around after slow start

The Sayreville A.A. girls’ 14U team made an amazing comeback after their 0-3 start in the Middletown Tournament.

Running off nine straight victories after a rocky start, the girls finished their season by winning the Hazlet Tournament Championship and their own tournament at Morgan.

"The bats have finally come alive," said manager Tony DeMaio.

Along with the hitting, Sayreville’s pitcher, Lorianne Miklaszewski, went 9-0 and pitched a no-hitter in their semi-final game at Morgan.

Miklaszewski was backed up by the team’s outstanding defense from players Simone Saxon, Krystina DeMaio, Melissa Vaccariello, Tabitha Matias, Casey Pollard, Kristen Giglia, Priya Patel, Amy Pacansky, Stephanie Perez, Christina Deleto and Nicole Scanlon.

The girls would like to thank their team manager Tony DeMaio, and coaches Frank Vaccariello, Alana Giglia, and Ed Matias for their support and dedication during the 2003 tournament season.
