SBAA 9’s win Cal Ripken state title

By:
The SBAA 9-year-olders are showing that last year was no fluke.
In 2002, as 8-year-olds, SBAA showed its vast potential by going 38-1 and winning seven tournaments.
This year, South Brunswick won an additional six championships, capped by winning the Cal Ripken State Tournament in South Plainfield last week. As a result, the team has been in Maryland this week for the Cal Ripken Mid-Atlantic Regional championship.
SBAA won its first three games, all by the 10-run mercy rule (full results will run next week).
Prior to the Ripken tournament, SBAA also posted tournament wins in Flemington, Cranford, Hamilton, Edison and the New Jersey State USSSA championship in Englewood. Prior to the Mid-Atlantic tournament, the team’s two-year record stood at 76-3.
The 9’s are managed by Anthony Feltre, while Jack Young and Bob Muha are coaches. The team is unusually strong both offensively and defensively.
SBAA averaged 14 runs per game and hit 14 home runs during the season. The offensive punch was supported by a stingy defense, which gave up an average of three runs per game.
Strong efforts throughout the year have come from infielders Brandon Dolan, Anthony Feltre, Kevin Mayce, Jack Young, Nick Muha and Luke Rimmer and outfielders Marty Halmi, Darryl Martin, Kenny Keenan and Daniel Levin. Catching duties are shared by Nicky Muha, Kenny Keenan and Anthony Feltre, with assistance from Marty Halmi.
The squad is also blessed with a deep pitching staff, led by Feltre, Dolan, Mayce, Muha and Young, with help from Keenan, Martin, Halmi, Rimmer and Levin.
