Truex Jr. coming to FirstEnergy Park on Aug. 19
The Lakewood BlueClaws, class A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, have announced that NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr., a native of Mayetta in Stafford Township, will be signing autographs during Tuesday’s game, a 7:05 start against the Charleston (W.Va.) Alley Cats, a Toronto Blue Jays affiliate.
This year Truex Jr. is running a limited Busch Series Schedule in the #81 Chance 2 car co-owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Theresa Earnhardt. Truex Jr. made his first start for the Chance 2 Chevy at Richmond International Raceway in May and qualified sixth. He was a top-10 and top-five contender for much of the race, even leading the field for 11 laps. A mechanical problem knocked him out of the race with less than 50 laps remaining and Truex Jr. went on to finish 31st.
In his other Chance 2 start at Dover, Truex Jr. finished 18th after battling in the top five for most of the race. Truex Jr. will be racing the weekend following his appearance at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood in the Busch Grand National Race at Bristol Motor Speedway. The New Jersey native is expected to race in four more events later this season.
