Wet forecast cancels second straight race card at WTS

WALL TOWNSHIP — Heavy Saturday rain and a forecast for more storms and heavy downpours throughout the weekend forced officials at Wall Township Speedway to cancel both Saturday (Aug. 9) and Sunday (Aug. 10) events in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series.

The washout marked the second straight weekend that two days of racing has been lost at the third-mile paved oval. The postponement of the weekend’s activities scrambles the schedule for the next several weekends.

On Saturday night, August 16, fans will get plenty of action as 10 main events will be offered for five racing divisions. Because of the large amount of racing on the card, a special 5 p.m. starting time, which is one hour earlier than usual, has been put into effect for this Saturday night only.

The speedway’s own Busch Beer Modifieds are slated to compete in two 35-lap main events on Saturday while the Pro Stocks will race in a pair of 25-lappers. The Street Stocks will battle in a pair of 25-lap main events, while the Truck Series racers will compete in two 20-lap features. Legend Cars will each see extra action this Saturday in a 30-lap main event plus a 20-lap feature race as a part of Monmouth Truck Equipment night.

The 69-lap "Ray Gastelu Memorial," rain postponed from August 9, will headline the card on Saturday, August 23. That racing program, sponsored by NAPA, Sunbird RV, Arizona Ice Tea and Waste Management, will also feature Wall’s Busch Beer Modifieds in a 50-lapper, the visiting ARTS Trucks in a 50-lapper, the Street Stocks in a 35-lap feature and the Legend Cars in a 20-lap main event.

The weekend of August 30 and 31 will go off as scheduled with the Modifieds set for the annual "Garden State Classic 100" on Saturday evening along with the Street Stocks in a 25-lapper, the Truck Series racers in a 20-lapper and the Legend Cars in a 20-lap main event. On Sunday, August 31, a championship Demolition Derby will share the bill with Street Stock, Truck Series and TQ Midget racing.

The Sunoco Race of Champions Modified Tour 100-lapper, rain postponed from Sunday (Aug. 10) has been reset for the first Saturday night of September. That September 6 program will also feature the Busch Beer Modifieds, Pro Stocks, Street Stocks, Legend Cars, Truck Series racers and TQ Midgets.
