Catherine Holland.

Catherine Holland
Former Princeton resident

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Catherine Lightfoot Holland died Thursday at Georgian Manor Assisted Living Facility in Chesapeake. She was 91.
Born in Richmond, Va., one of 12 children, she moved with her family to Philadelphia in 1915. She moved to Princeton in 1993 and in 1998 to Virginia to live with her son and daughter-in-law.
She was a cook, seamstress and crafter until failing eyesight and health intervened. Her skills were particularly evident in the colorful sweaters, afghans, tablecloths and bedspreads she gave to friends and relatives.
Devoted to church, she served in the Nurses’ Guild and sang in church choirs. In Princeton she joined the Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church and was active in the weekly Bible study and prayer group as well as the Chime Choir. In Virginia she joined the New Hope Baptist Church and remained active until failing health prevented her attendance.
Daughter of the late Annie and Junious Lightfoot, wife of the late Robert Holland Sr., she is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Robert Jr. and Eunice Holland of Chesapeake, Va., and Donald W. and Janet Holland of Philadelphia; daughter and son-in-law Barbara Holland and Gerald L. Cooper of Princeton; grandchildren Robert Jay and Eunice Robin, both of California, and Michelle of Philadelphia; and great-grandson Justin of Philadelphia.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church, 4260 Pughsville Road, Suffolk, Va.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist Church.
