HOWELL — The community will come together on Saturday to celebrate Howell Day. The annual event, held at Oak Glen Park, Preventorium Road, will begin at noon and run until dusk.
Visitors are being encouraged to take advantage of the free parking and transportation being provided for the event. According to a press release from the parks and recreation department, free parking and bus shuttle service will be provided from the Aldrich Road Park and Ride, Route 9; and the Department of Public Works building, Old Tavern Road.
This year’s extravaganza will feature live entertainment from several 1960s legends, including Lesley Gore, the Marvelettes and the Coasters, now performing as Cornell Gunther’s Coasters.
Among the hits that are expected to be heard are Gore’s "It’s My Party," "Judy’s Turn to Cry" and "You Don’t Own Me," the Marvelettes’, "Please Mr. Postman" and the Coasters’ "Poison Ivy" and "Charlie Brown."
In addition to the live entertainment, there will be a classic car show, rides, food and vendor booths. There will be a bicycle auction at 12:30 p.m. on field No. 3.
This year’s sponsors include Amboy National Bank, Commerce Bank, Fleet Bank, Lanes Mill Marketplace, Levinson and Axelrod, Staten Island Bank and Trust, Stavola Asphalt and Wal-Mart.
