Resident urges council to televise meetings

As a regular attendee at the Township Council meetings and one who does not have the time to pick up the agenda prior to the meeting, I am happy to have it available to me online. It is now time to complete the availability of municipal information by broadcasting public meetings on Brick Channel 20.

Not only is this what is done in many New Jersey towns, but also is done in towns across the nation, as I pointed out at a recent council meeting. It would allow all those people whose schedules do not allow the time to attend the meetings, but more importantly allow shut-ins to stay informed and involved.

At the Sept. 23 public meeting a long-term resident spoke of the need for more public transportation to be available in Brick that would allow spur-of-the-moment trips to places such as the library (or town hall). As the resident’s eyesight worsened with age, she made the decision to give up her driving privileges. She now relies upon the good nature of others to take her places, e.g., Township Council meetings.

I am sure she would be much better served by having the option to view it on television. It means in sickness and in health, in good weather and bad, she and others like her can be as involved as she was able to be when she could drive.
