PLUMSTED — The township will be buzzing with activity this weekend as it hosts its second annual Fall Harvest Weekend, Oct. 3 through Oct. 5. Numerous events will be featured throughout the township over the course of the weekend.

On Oct. 3, the activities will kick off on Main Street, New Egypt, with food, music, games and harvest activities from 5-8 p.m.

Oct. 4 will feature the Arts and Crafts Festival at Oakford Lake Park on Lakeview Drive off of Main Street from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can take advantage of the petting zoo, pony rides, games, food, and arts and crafts.

On the same day, downtown Main Street will be known as the "New Egypt Recreation Oasis" when it becomes the site of a car show and Harvest Slot Car Tournament. From 4-7 p.m., drivers from the New Egypt Speedway will be on hand to meet people. Those interested in participating in the slot car tournament can call Ken Francis at (609) 758-4700.

The Fall Harvest 5K Run will be held Oct. 5 beginning at 9 a.m. The Kiddie Dash will start at 8:30 a.m. A 50-yard dash will be offered for ages 5, 6 and 7, as well as a 100-yard dash for ages 8, 9 and 10 and a 200-yard dash for ages 11, 12 and 13. All Kiddie Dash entrants will receive a T-shirt and a ribbon.

Children can also register for the 5K Run. Although preregistration is over, those interested in participating may register on the day of the event for a fee of $20. Entrants will receive a T-shirt and a chance for random giveaways. Prizes will be awarded to winners. A special award will be presented for first male and female Plumsted residents. The 3.1-mile USATF certified course will begin and end on Main Street and wind through the streets of New Egypt. Roads will be closed to traffic. No skates, roller blades, bikes or pets will be allowed. Free parking will be available at the recreation fields and behind the municipal building.

In addition to the above mentioned events there will be a flea market on downtown Main Street, Oct. 5, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call Bob Scott at (609) 758-2143 for table information. There will also be canoe, kayak and duck racing, Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Throughout the weekend, pumpkin, squash and vegetable picking as well as hay rides and corn mazes will be available at Hallock Farms, 38 Fischer Road, (609) 758-8847; Emery’s Blueberry Farms, 346 Long Swamp Road, (609) 758-8514, and Kim’s Country Store at DeWolf’s "U-Pick" Farm, 10 West Colliers Mills Road, (609) 758-6288, all in New Egypt.
