Thinks Old Bridge issue should be looked at seriously

I am writing to take exception to your editorial in the Oct. 2 Suburban, about a very serious situation in Old Bridge.

It is unfortunate that your editorial writer tried to trivialize a matter that has been tied to a criminal investigation, by using the tired cliché, "silly season." That is the kind of catch phrase used as a crutch by a writer unwilling to explore the serious nature of a problem.

There is nothing "silly" about a politically appointed Zoning Board bending over backward to help enrich some of Gov. James McGreevey’s closest political allies and campaign contributors. The Democratic-controlled Zoning Board of Adjustment voted to allow a gigantic billboard to be put up in Old Bridge, against the wishes of most residents.

Newspapers vigorously defend freedom of speech and the First Amendment whenever they feel threatened. So, how come your editorial tries to trivialize a blatant attempt by the Democratic majority on the Old Bridge Township Council to stifle debate on this issue? Freedom of speech should not be limited to editorial writers, but also should be extended to elected officials.
