Basie hires new general manager

The Count Basie Theatre, Red Bank, announced that it has hired Vantony Jenkins, formerly of the State Theatre, New Brunswick, as general manager.

Jenkins will supervise the daily operations of the theater, including maintenance, repair, scheduling and rentals. He will be the primary contact with artists and events.

"I am very excited to be here and I’m looking forward to making the Count Basie Theatre one of the premier presenting theaters in the state," said Jenkins, who is a resident of Somerset.

Jenkins will handle day-to-day operations while Numa Saisselin, chief executive officer of the Count Basie, will continue to oversee presentations, bookings, fund-raising and historic renovation of the facility.

For the past seven years, Jenkins was the director of operations for the State Theatre in New Brunswick, managing about 175 shows every year.

He has been the production manager for Infinity Dance Theatre in New York and the production stage manager for the Hartford Ballet in Connecticut.

Jenkins is a graduate of the University of Iowa, where he earned an master of fine arts degree in theater arts with an emphasis in production management, and South Carolina State College, where he received a bachelor of arts in theater arts with an emphasis in performance.
